D has wanted a bit more actual drawer space, so as not to just throw clothes in a pile. Fair enough. Our guiding principle of "get something cheap that will work for now" that stood us in rather good stead through so many apartments and the moves between, needs to give way to a house of our own attitude. Which is more like, "get something decent that will work for the rest of our lives." We've been moving toward that, and it is cheaper in the long run to get good and make it last. Still, we have to keep reminding each other.
We've been puzzling out the issue, and after a lot of looking further afield, our local grocery/department store had a good solid dresser, on sale, and we got a bit more off since the floor model was the only one left. Very nice guys moved it out and stowed it in the car for us. And we didn't have to put it together!

And a good place for the clock and speakers (for our bedtime stories.) Alternate laundry basket. Very functional, and nice.
Main laundry, and the leftover shelves that I'll find a use for.

We still have three of the army laundry bags, that get used all the time. Used to use pillow cases, as my mother did, but the bags are a lot more functional.

I'd really love to paint in that room very soon, the green is way too much like ugly-army-green, and it's very blotchy and patchy. Or some sort of covering, hemp or grass paper sort of thing, to cover all the mucky bits. We will do a lot of research, as is our wont. Then, it gets done.

I love the elephant hanging!
I had a red one up, recently taken down for washing. Put up this one, intending it to be temporary. I think I like the elephant better, now. Covers the green, which is nice.
It is sometimes difficult to make that call - to spend perhaps 100% more than what you think is reasonable, but to end up with a thing that is of quality and durability that means it will last, will work well, and that you'll have no regrets. We made sure to invest in our dishwasher with this philosophy and it has done us well.
