Aromatic

Got outside, turned the compost, finally. Not much else to do, really. Leaves are laid down, piled up, doing what they do. Walked to the store to pick up laundry detergent.

Cleaned the bathtub and bleached the shower curtain, that orange mildew/mold/scum is eradicated.

Then I ground to a halt. Not ill, just, out of energy. There is a difference. Ate a little, read, slept. We made dinner very early because I'd finally gotten hungry, and hadn't eaten anywhere near enough. After that, I saw the time, 4:30. I thought we'd eaten then, and it was about an hour later. Crap. Oh, well.

Everything is a bit off this week.

Planning on putting up the tree on the 20th, right before the solstice. Then we stay decorated until January 6th. Keeps me from getting tired of it too soon.

Apparently the disagreement over real vs artificial trees has been going on a very long time. I liked real trees, but they are expensive, and I get some contact dermatitis from the needles. The last one we got looked good, but once we got it home we noticed an overwhelming petroleum stink. That faded after a day or so, but then the tree was dead dry and dropping massive numbers of needles. We stripped it and threw it out to prevent a fire. Since having a tree is largely for the aroma, this was utter failure. We got a small plastic one for a few years. Then a small silk tree, which we still have. A good tree will last many years. No need for water, easy to keep from tipping over.

My parents bought real trees, until they started getting pricey. Mom picked up a decent plastic one on sale after christmas, which my brother and I assembled and decorated for a few years. After he left, it became my project, which I enjoyed. Full size, green, realistic, not bad at all when smothered with all the lights and ornaments.

I was planning on getting a pine wreath or garland, for the pine smell, but the ones available don't seem to have any smell at all. And it's not just my poor nose, I had D check as well. No idea what is going on with that.

After every windstorm, I go outside and gather a few branches (mostly douglas-fir) and bring them indoors for the smell. Currently have two branches in my bathroom and yes they are dropping needles everywhere but it smells lovely.

I have some Scots pine essential oil. Works a treat on an artificial tree!

Take it easy, and be a little kind to yourself.

My compost is frozen.

With around 20cm's in the end that fell, there aren't any leaves left, either, at least, none that I can see.

Our tree was put up last weekend but we only had a short window of time so the boxes of decorations are still strewn around the tree with only about four sevenths of the ornaments placed.

We had a real tree a few years in our previous home, but in this one we've only ever had the fake tree we purchased a few years before we moved. It has the lights built in. Putting up and taking down the fake tree is quite the chore, but then, so is hauling and caring for a real one.

Have the smell of pine in the house is not a priority for us.

Pixie,
Ah, if I had that just outside my door, I'm sure I'd do the same.

RR,
Ooo, I like that idea. I even know a place that might have that.

Tom,
Trying to.

Phil,
Mine will likely freeze up next week, once the snow falls.

I've put my little feather tree up this year. A friend told me the other day it reminds her of the Charlie Brown tree, but I like it.

Be well!
