Nots

It's a moderately glad day. Sorta a not bad, not a step back, denial of undoing the wrong thing. I think. The supreme court is not even listening to the people who want to stop marriage equality, so the courts can't halt the unconstitutionality of the bans against. As assbackwards as this all sounds, and is, it's probably the way to build up stresses that will crack the dam of hardheads. Social justice is so weird that way. The simple, direct method tends to leave pockets of abscesses down deep that fester and undermine the apparent successes. See: abortion rights. Which is also why, although I think the Equal Rights Amendment should have passed, I'm not convinced it would have made any real difference. Title IX certainly never made a lot of difference.

And I've given up on the idea of human progress, at least not as a linear process. Fairness and justice will always be circumvented by greed and lust for power. Although not entirely stopped. Life is better, in many ways, for non-white-rich-men. (Note, I did not just say 'men'.) At least women, people of color, other-gendered, have the law on our side, however inadequate that is for changing long held attitudes.

A step in the not-wrong direction is to be appreciated, and so, Huzzah!

Well, X number of steps forward will always also have Y number of steps back. The question becomes which is greater.
