What's different? What's missing?
I dug these out last week. Yes, I am tired. They were going to be in the way of the porch renovation. And give me a shovel and a place to dig, I'm pretty happy.
"FIRST!"

One sunflower a'bloomin'. More to come. Bergamot lovely. New rose has a few wee buds. Tomato plants mostly thriving. Set out oil trap for earwigs, and caught an impressive number. They are flourishing, so I need to reduce their numbers. Also the nasty spike grass, that I didn't recognize as such, has taken over. Too dry to dig up now, so I laid cardboard over it, weighted with pavers. In the fall, more digging, and more wheat and rye, maybe clover. Every June, I find out what I did wrong this year, and plan to correct.

What is the oil trap? I am overrun by earwigs. I don't want to use toxins in my yard because of the birds and other visitors, so the oil trap sounds like a good idea.
I am impressed with the committed prep work you do for House.
Crow,
Plastic container with lid. Openings at edge of lid big enough for earwigs, so not very large. Put in vegetable oil (I have sesame oil) and a bit of soy sauce. Bury with lid even to surface.
First morning, there was a layer of dead earwigs in the bottom. Don't want to get rid of all earwigs, since they eat aphids. But they get to be too much, and eat everything. This reduces the population. If you want more detail, google on!
Every year I learn something new from my garden and it usually is about what not to do or plant next year.
And sometimes watching something run rampant is very educational. I know exactly what the moonflower sprouts look like and pull them out early now. I recognize cleavers and other weeds that try to hide out in the poppies.
Pulling up those supports must have been satisfying.
Starting,
I'm finding this out as well.
Nimble,
Yup.
Your energy is impressive ! You deserve to be smiled on by sunflowers.
