Phases

A phase of warming, probably because Moby is feeling better these days. Came home from errands, and noticed a balance of cats.

Moby came over to me for a head-rub, as he often does. Eleanor passed him, a little do-si-do, then notices me.

Yes, she likely was watching him, could certainly see him from where she sat.

Another huge fleece blanket found on sale, this time in bright red, for $8. Eleanor is in love with it.

They continue, in fits and starts, with backsliding, to grow accustomed. Fascinating to watch.

Jo(e) writes about a winter hike, and I am reminded of my frostbitten toes from Basic. Out on bivouac, my feet went numb and stayed numb. Another woman helped† me warm up, while in a building with heat for a short while. A drill from that station berated me, telling me my waxy, numb, but deeply aching* feet were not frostbitten. Took me until June in San Antonio, seven months later, to fully regain feeling in several toes.

Stay warm.

†Put my icy feet on her belly. For which I was, and ever will be, utterly grateful.

*Warning signs of frostbite include:

•Pale or waxy white or grey skin

•Numbness

•Tingling or stinging sensation in the affected body part

•Aching in the affected body part

•Reduced blood flow

Thanks for the symptoms list, Z. Helpful to have this time of year.

Crow,
Warm water on the outside, hot beverage on the inside. Simple hot water is actually pleasant on a cold day, and quite warming. I say this as someone who's had more tea than I should occasionally.

best phrase of the day; "a balance of cats"…reminds me obliquely of "a murder of crows" etc.

freezing to death is more pain than i can imagine.

well, i never froze to death, but wen rescue got to me, they said "we weren't expecting someone alive", so it was close enough for me.

i never do forget the pain of it. it was the sort of thing that completely redefines your idea of what constitutes pain.

i am amazed at the kindness and courage of that woman to warm your feet on her own belly.

bless her, wherever she is.

pc,
It's a delicate situation.

flask,
Sad thing was, we didn't even like each other, she just took responsibility for me because she saw what needed doing, and just did it.

Stay warm.

I've been sufficiently careful throughout my life thus far, to not ever have had received frost bite, and to have come only somewhat close only a small handful of times.

I'm guessing this winter will so far have given a larger number of people frost bite, given how cold it has been for so many days.
