Print

We killed our old printer. Not on purpose, but the back room got colder than it could handle, which we did not anticipate properly. So, off to the Office Supply Shop. While there, I picked this up off the clearance rack. Put it on the counter with the printer box, but it got missed. The cashier just said "take it." Dylan demurred, enough times to be sure and polite, when I stopped him, thanked the cashier, and we left with it. Dylan not sure, but I am the last person to accept gifts easily, and even I could see this was a moment of Don't give a shit, let me be generous. One less thing to mark down, again. Not worth ringing through alone. And, at his discretion, an acceptable corporate 'loss'. I will enjoy it in the spirit it was given. It has pages of buttons, and teacups, and leaves.

The snow, and the view out the front door window, as per. More on the porch than usual.

My arms are aching badly from the shoveling, so worn out from the physical activity. Dragged myself along all day. Resting this evening. Starting to get the back porch project moving, since we now have the funds, and - in an account at the credit union, opened for the purpose.

Do take it a little bit easier, Zhoen. Isn't this what they call "heart attack snow"? Necessary though it may be to clear paths etc., it'll clear itself in the end.

Tom,
Well, not quite, not here. The first inch or so was a bit wet, but the rest is salty fluff. Not wet enough to make a snowball, put it that way. Clearing it on the second day, after being tramped down and turned to ice, that is awful. It's not so much the exertion as the different movements that hurt.

It does look pretty out there. I could cope with it a bit colder and more twinkly here, but mustn't grumble, had a couple of nice frosty morning walks.

Have a good rest, mind how you go.

ah, the dry snow! in edmonton you can't make a snowball or a snowman until the last few snowfalls of the spring (march? april? may!) it's funny how the media's depictions of snow and snowballs colours most people's understanding of snow. my parents in ontario have the heavy wet stuff and that is indeed hard work. when i left edmonton on friday, there was a sparkling dust of snow in the air, the air having turned that magical purple, and all was a-twinkle. a really lovely way to say goodbye, i thought.

but tom is right - do take care of yourself. it's important!

Your snowfall looks like ours, except now most of it is gone. I swept off our front sidewalk on Christmas Day. I was wearing all red and my Santa hat and NO ONE came by. Disappointment.

Lucy,
It's already gone icy and starting to be grubby, so don't mind too much.

pc,
Yeah, that's the kind of snow I knew. Snowman snow. First time I met this stuff, I thought it was hollywood snow, fake and fluffy. Much easier to shovel, though.

Cat,
I can imagine it, how wonderful, Santa shoveling.

Ours will be gone except on the grass, by the end of the week.

Aren't there any teenagers nearby keen to earn some cash ? Or have they priced themselves out of the market ?

S&S,
Haven't seen any. No idea who to ask. Maybe in a few years, for now, we can handle it.
