Aracari

We walked over to the Aviary this morning, caught the show. A select number of their birds are trained and are shown flying for an audience. Obvious that they are well treated and loved by the handlers, and the environment well controlled. We'd been to one many years ago, outside in the summer, which is when pelicans won my heart. They are behaving normally, and it's all education focused.

Didn't occur to us to bring a camera, although Dylan had his ipod camera. He says to apologize for the blur.

I got to be a tree for an aracari. Felt a bit like a cat hopping across my palm.

Vultures are impressive.

They flew close over our heads, between handlers with food.

Small girl sitting next to me bothered by my purple hair. I tried to assure her, but at less than two, I'm not sure that helped her. Her mom was sanguine.

We walked through the new rain forest house, which was lovely warm. And very quiet, just the two of us and free roaming birds.

The whole place is focused on rehabilitation or rescue, conservation and education. The white faced whistling ducks who were brought out to visit, were hatched there.

Some real photos here.

What a great way to spend a morning. I bet the birds appreciated the purple, even if the toddler didn't.

Great fun! How lucky are you?

RR,
They didn't seem to mind, or indeed, notice.

Cat,
Beyond all words, fortunate. I try to appreciate in kind.
