Riot

Yes, I am thinking about the Detroit riots of '67, since you ask. Yes this is the corner of my street.

As reported in the national news, there was white supremacist involvement, inciting violence, as they do.

Meanwhile, a couple of armed men stood at one street corner, saying they were protecting protesters. At least one of these men was wearing a Hawaiian shirt, an outfit commonly associated with the far-right Boogaloo movement.

And just before the closing of our street and the massive number of police vehicles.

Things settled down for a bit, but then around 5 p.m. people began to once again target police vehicles near 200 East and 400 South, hitting one police car with a skateboard several times.

This mostly happened in the immediate vicinity of the Public Safety Building, police and fire headquarters.
This seems the most important bit. The young people protesting in the morning were replaced by agitators and idiots spoiling for a fight.

As of 6:30 p.m., the National Guard had arrived on scene. It was unclear at that point who on the scene of the protest was related to the original protest and who had come in from outside groups.

All above quotes via ksl.

This one in particular.

Brandon yelled, “that’s it,” got out of his vehicle, opened his back door, pulled out his bow and arrows and began to load it. A video clearly shows him loading his bow, screaming, “All Lives Matter*,” and then immediately aiming his bow at an unarmed black man. He then turned around, aimed at the crowd behind him, before turning back, aiming at the same black man, and then firing the arrow. The man fell to the ground in an attempt to dodge the arrow, and then quickly got back up and tackled Brandon McCormick in self-defense.

The helicopters were hovering a long, long time last night. I kept thinking about Boyz N the Hood. Tried to re-imagine it as the generators at our hospital site in Saudi when I had to sleep overnight there. That noise is unsettling.

*All lives matter, except for yours, so I'll just shoot you.

8PM here, as well; since March 28th; mayor's order, governor's recommendation in statewide lockdown instructions.

Typical Utah gathering, wound up at 11PM. Updates above.

I am so sorry you are going through this first. I say first because it seems to me that there is nowhere that can smugly say "that can't happen here". There is bigotry and hatred everywhere, and we all need to acknowledge and turn away from it. Hugs

Thanks for the observations. The world is watching.
I deeply resent having to learn anything about white men who want another civil war and their group is called Boogaloo. And yet, as a while person I think I have to.

Deanna,
We do have to join the fight, these are our neighbors and friends and family, and this really has to stop.

Nimble,
Agreed.
