I find that comforting, don't you? I think that the fact I shall return to our earth in the form of some carbon molecules, that we are all iterations of carbon. That perhaps somehow I can give back all that I didn't do, all that I should have done, to......what? The earth? The great spirit? I don't know.
I remember many many years ago a guy I worked with came in with ashes on his forehead and I told him his head was dirty and tried to wipe it off. I was raised as a Presbyterian and didn't know about those rituals. Felt like an ass.
I had just taken a sip of ale when I read: Dylan always mentions that Ash Wednesday is the day, all over the world, that Jews get to say "You missed a spot."

It's fine with me.

Mike,
Yes. The ultimate comfort. Kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall.
i agree with the first comment. and in light of this political climate, there is extra comfort in knowing i will end one day.
I read somewhere that it's possible to arrange to be buried with tree seeds ... that appeals to me.

Amen

My family and I went to Ash Wednesday mass last night. Lent has begun.
I don't post much or often about my church life, but we are regular church goers, just not big evangelizers.
I like the idea of being buried with tree seeds .

I don't miss many of the Catholic rituals, but I do miss this one. It really speaks.
