Our first year the garden was rough, and the tree merely a tree to me.

I eventually figured out it is a Kentucky Coffee Tree. The city came to raise it one year, took a bit off the bottom.

It's grown, and provides a lot of afternoon shade.

I've grown to love our tree.

You should love that tree - it's gorgeous.
So glad that they didn't just save the bother and just remove it. It is just right there.
Cat,
Tiny little leaves, don't need raking.
gz,
Well, it's very healthy, it just drooped over the sidewalk. It's on City property, so it's up to them to tend, thankfully our forestry division is very helpful.
tree! It has a really good shape.
Trees will save the planet. Cherish it!
Nimble,
And spreading nicely.
RR,
It was theirs long before we laid any claim to it, certainly.
also your kentucky coffee tree can make you a delicious coffee-like beverage.

Have you tried it? Because from what I read, it's not a good coffee substitute. I can't abide coffee to start with, not even the smell, so I couldn't possibly judge.
