They've come a long way, bless'em.
With only so little window and the only perch, it is not too surprising they share it to look out.
Phil,The sill goes all the way across, there is another window on the other side of the room with a sill all the way. Not to mention two higher levels to the cat tree.
Ah, so the cats have options. Maybe there was something of interest outside the window that day that the cats were perusing.
I think she's just pushing to sit closer to him, and he's tolerating it.
