One cat I had a long time ago was so clumsy she would brush past and knock things off (none of the others did). She never managed a quiet landing either!!
We have a mantelpiece that had been claimed by our cats. We've come to accept that nothing overly large can go up there or it is pushed aside (and often to the floor) on one of their many walks or runs across it :)
Moby is actually a rather careful cat. He's caused almost no appreciable damage to anything over the years. We accept that anything breakable left up there is subject to the movements of the cat.
He did take exception to one of the decorative dragons left by the Previouses, shoved it off the windowsill and broke it's nose and ears. I suspect that was a matter of taste, though.
