Antelope

We got a wild hair, and took off.

Antelope Island is only an hour away, but it feels like it's at the end of the earth. No civilization in any direction, save the empty causeway. Winds were high here. There, it hit up on Buffalo Point with muscles. Probably 30-50 MPH. We put on shirts, because with wind and lake and elevation, it's ridiculously easy to get burned, even on a cool day. A short mile trail, but it beat us both, and cleared out the cobwebs vigorously. The journey there (and back) was much more difficult than it needed to be, but we persisted. As we approached the entrance we realized how little cash we had. Had to search the car for change, and still came up a nickel short for the entry fee, but the ranger merely grinned, and waved us in with what we had, including pennies.

I absolutely love the grin on your face! Great looking spot to revitalize, too.

Wow! Imagine having that an hour away!
I hope you saw some bison.

Walking is good, especially when the ranger understands!

But what is the cellphone reception like?!

Crow,
It was exhilarating, couldn't even use the binoculars we were being so buffeted. But no buffet to be seen.

RR,
At a distance, yes, although they looked more like large rocks. Could have gone to the ranch at the other end, but decided to wend our way home.

herhimnbryn,
We were most grateful. It was closer to a climb than a walk, with a few lizards. So bright and windy I couldn't even tell that the digital camera hadn't taken a photo of the little guys darting around our feet. There were immense numbers of birds in the water along the causeway, and flitting through the air everywhere.

trousers,
Best on a windy day, and higher up. The Great Salt Lake has terrible BO. It's a concentrated saline, fecund and mucky place.

Got to see a tank full of brine shrimp, aka Sea Monkeys, in the visitor center. If the ones I had has matured to that point, I actually might have been impressed, tiny as they were.

Pacian,
Dunno, don't have one. But the south end is so close to the city, I expect it's actually not bad. They do have their own 10 watt AM radio station.

Jean,
It really is, and both of us were a bit surprized at how impressed we were.
