I'm back. WP sucks even worse. Can't figure out how to post more than one photo, can't even easily get to the whole blog to see what's happening. All that great support? Yeah, that costs. Which is kind of dumb, because if I don't like the free sample, I'm hardly going to buy the pie.
Maybe I'm just frustrated, and need to take a break from blogging at all for a while. Work the garden, keep to myself. Ignore the other site. I'll be under the rock this week.
Essays. Meanderings and mutterings. Lots of photos of our cat. Counting coup on fifty years existence.

I've had to twiddle about for a couple of hours and lost two bits of a posting, but I think I've got the new Blogger now, and I think I might like it. Still can't see the point of the change, though.
Yes, I've noticed various changes in Blogger. They bother me (especially the robot thing) but not enough to move to Wordpress.
'Under the rock' sounds a bit daunting!
keep us posted on garden progress please!
for what it;s worth, i haven't noticed anything break in blogger, but i am using a standard template modified with my own code.
yeah, i looked at WP a while back because i wanted to more seamlessly integrate galleries with music and control the look of it, but blogger STILL lets you customize more than anything out there and for free.
in order to modify a WP template you either have to buy a package or host it on your own server.
but blogger can't make third party templates retroactively compatible, so when blogger updates, those things tend to break.
i have recently arranged for new server space so i can customize to my little heart's desire, but i'm likely to just keep the blog on blogger just because it really is functional and i can customize it to point to the rest of the stuff. i am even considering changing my regular site to match my blogger template more closely.
and no, i do not trust blogger's new dynamic layouts because i like to control how my work will appear on the page.
i'm sorry. i've gone on at some length.

flask,
No, no, come back in, have a seat, that was really helpful. Blooger sucks, but it's as good as it gets. Especially for me, since I don't enjoy the technical futzing around, only the writing and getting photos out there, and having people comment.
RR,
You have put it precisely. I think I will go back to writing posts in Textedit, then copypasting, as I did when I was a newborn blogger. I just don't like having to think about this crap when I blog, it's not the fun part. And so much of my life and work is mostly the no-fun part, this was one place that was mostly just fun.
RtheS,
Yeah, WP is not the answer. Blooger really is the best of a bad lot. Sadly.
my blogger changed a couple of months ago but not recently - I didn't see the point of the change but find it ok now I'm used to it. Hope it isn't about to change again...
Enjoy your under rock time.
That was pretty much my experience with Wordpress when I considered changing. Awkward and crippled in the free version (I mean Wordpress, not me).
From memory, I've never written a pohanginapete post directly in blogger (the photoblog's different, for obvious reasons). I write the post, paste it into blogger, load the phhotographs, then spend forever trying to fix the screw-ups as blogger makes nonsensical and idiosyncratic changes.
Flask's right — if you want to modify the template in Wordpress, be prepared to pay. I'm not.
Wordpress and Blogger — the evil of two lessers.
Welcome back.
Hurrah! A round of ale for all on me!
Whew, that was scary... For a minute I thought I'd lost your blog! Enjoy your time in the garden. Here it has been raining since Easter. I feel like I'm back in Seattle again!
I came back and found it changed, no surprise as they'd been threatening it for ages and I had tried it for about a month a a while back, then switched back. I don't like it, and like HHB find it's bloody inconvenient to impossible on the tiny laptop, but I guess I'll manage. I opened up a WP account ages ago but quickly abandoned all hope with that, so I guess we're stuck with Blugger. No one seems to like it, there's no advantage to it, why are they doing it?
Lucy
I like "blugger" and I presume because it's easier for them, with the potential to count us better.
