Polydactyly
First the circling, then perching, relaxing, then exploring. A cat with a few extra toes on each foot. Like a certain baby in the news.

I remember when I was a kid, and I first learned that some people were born with six fingers on a hand (in reference to Anne Boleyn), I could never understand why their parents had them amputated. What does it achieve?
Pacian,
Largely because they are often not functional, can be easily injured, or interfere with fine motor function in the hand. In feet, it can affect gait, and make shoes impossible without extensive modification. I suspect there are occasional 'cosmetic' reasons, which is awful. Sounds like the baby I added the link to above is going to keep all 24 digits.
