Haiku (#7)
Through the dark, the chime
The dream holds me close and warm
Duty swings my feet.
I spoke with an unkind person about the value of kindness today. She, of course, agreed heartily, unaware of how she is seen, how often her actions and words are cruel. I wonder how often I seem mean when I try to be of use, grateful, helpful.

I rather imagine that all of us would be surprised exactly how others perceive us, our words, out actions, and our intentions.
I just heard yesterday about a "360 evaluation"--perhaps you've heard of it? An eval that includes input from one's supervisor, peers, and underlings. What a shock an honest one of those would be for some of the management....
These haikus are really picking up a momentum now.
"She, of course, agreed heartily." Of course. Just as the biggest thieves prate the loudest about property rights, and those who most enjoy dominating and humiliating others go on and on about freedom.
I often wonder the same things...trying not to care how others perceive me, yet caring all the same, trying to be helpful, yet fearing that I come across as arrogant.
